Updated: Aug 28, 2023

Learn how play can grow your toddlers brain!

Gross Motor Skills at a Toddler Play Class

Here at Ready Steady Play, Play is our passion, it is what we do! It is our passion because play literally grows your little ones brains!

Play is crucial for toddlers holistic development as it supports their cognitive, language, social, emotional, physical, and creative skills. Below are some ways in which play contributes to brain development

COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT

Cognitive development: Play helps toddlers develop their thinking and problem-solving skills. Through play, they learn to explore, experiment, and make connections between different objects and concepts. For example, building blocks can help them understand spatial relationships and cause-and-effect.

LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

Play provides opportunities for toddlers to practice and improve their language skills. They learn new words, practice communication, and develop their vocabulary through pretend play, storytelling, and interacting with others.

MOTOR DEVELOPMENT

Play allows toddlers to develop their fine and gross motor skills. Activities like stacking blocks, drawing, and playing with puzzles help improve their hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and control over their body movements.

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Play helps toddlers develop social skills and emotional intelligence. They learn to take turns, share, cooperate, and negotiate with others. Play also allows them to express and regulate their emotions, develop empathy, and understand social cues.

CREATIVITY AND IMAGINATION

Play encourages toddlers to use their imagination and creativity. Pretend play, role-playing, and engaging with open-ended toys or materials stimulate their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and divergent thinking.

MEMORY AND ATTENTION

Play helps toddlers improve their memory and attention span. They learn to focus on tasks, follow instructions, and remember rules or sequences during play activities.

BRAIN CONNECTION AND NEURAL PATHWAYS

Play stimulates the formation of new neural connections in a toddler's brain. It strengthens existing connections and helps establish important neural pathways related to various skills and abilities.

Overall, play provides a rich and stimulating environment for toddlers, allowing their brains to develop and grow in multiple areas simultaneously. It supports their cognitive, language, motor, social, emotional, and creative development, laying the foundation for future learning and success.

WHAT THE PARENTS SAY

Such a lovely class! My daughter has an absolute ball and sleeps her little head off after class. I always feel so relaxed after too! The teacher is brilliant with the little ones and makes a huge effort with the themes each week. Such a happy, friendly and non pressurised environment. Totally recommend!

I've attended Ready Steady Play classes in Portlaoise when my daughter was a baby until now at the age of 3, the classes are fantastic. The teacher puts so much preparation into the themes and format of each class and is full of energy each week. The classes are a great way to meet other parents and for my daughter to socialise, engage with music and dance and develop her motor skills. Would definitely recommend!

Louise, Portlaoise

The class is so creative and imaginative, I’m in awe of the costumes each week and ideas for each. The thought that goes into each class and positivity. It is not only fun for babies but for parents - I leave the class buzzing after too!
